Feature Stories
In-depth feature stories can be the most fulfilling and challenging writing that a journalist does. It can require an enormous amount of time, energy and research to learn about a person and their art or craft, and it can be difficult to simplify their life's work into one story. However, when it is done right, a feature story illuminates an individual and enlightens the public with a window into their life and passion.

High Uintahs Taxidermy brings memories back to life
I wrote and published this story on Voices of Utah, in 2015. As an artist and fellow outdoorsman, I enjoyed spending countless hours learning about the art of taxidermy. I took hundreds of pictures and recorded hours of audio to supplement the print story. Check out the video, within the story, that I created using Soundslides.

Guitar maker Ryan Thorell builds custom, hand-crafted instruments
Prior to this story I knew very little about guitars, let alone how they are made. Therefore, I had to do a lot of research and learn about crafting custom guitars, before I could publish this story on Voices of Utah. Be sure to click on the slideshow link, within the story, to see a step-by-step process of how guitars are hand-crafted.

Unique, local restaurants bring cultural value to Utah
After working in the food industry for many years, I thought it would be interesting to publish a story about local restaurants in Utah. For this story I interviewed the owner and executive chef of Corbin's Grille in Layton. I also interviewed one individual who later started his own local restaurant - Pranzo Italiano.
Sports Writing
I have always had a passion for sports, and writing about them is a way for me to share that with other people. I took a sports reporting class in my senior year of college, which was taught by columnist Brad Rock from Deseret News. Under his tutelage I gained experience writing multiple game stories and opinion columns. You can read a few of those stories below.
